Scarlet had her kittens today! Very exciting in our household. We have been waiting for this day since our little girl started yowling and rubbing and so on and then left us for two days. She returned as prim as could be never guessing the angst her behavior had caused. We were so happy to see her again. Let's just say Scarlet has provided many opportunities to talk with our children about "life".

Next we have our baby chicks. We ordered three Barred Plymouth Rock pullets. They are growing so fast! They are also much more active and noisy than Russet and Rose were when they were young. These guys are already flying out of their tote and going crazy. I hope they don't cause too much ruckus when they grow up. I'll bet Rose will keep them in line.

Ada and Alice holding their chicks Pebbles and Daisy.
Oooops! Part of the excitement of farm life. Poop in the hand.
Jack with his Blossom. He wanted to name her Buddy until he realized it was a girl. He took a lot of time and came up with the cutest name.

This is a pie I made the other day. Strawberry rhubarb. It is my favorite fruit pie and it is even better homemade! I got the recipe off this girl's blog: Farmhouse Foodie . Along with pie and a really incredible rhubarb custard cake, I have also stewed some up with sugar and a little water and served it with whipped cream on pound cake. Rhubarb is amazing. You should try it!

happy mother's day to me

Jacob took the kids on a morning ride so I could have a little peace after my early morning breakfast in bed. Lucky me! They came back bearing gifts from the forest.
