You know when you wake up with a song in your head? This is what I woke up to the other morning. Great day.

a lovely ritual

Every Tuesday night after scouts Jacob brings home our death and our life. We sit and eat ice cream and watch American Idol. I love this ritual though it has not been kind to my backside or Jacob's tummy. It lasts the whole season and then stops as suddenly as it starts. We have been doing this for 3 years now. It is one of my favorite parts of my life. American Idol is not my best show. Not even close. But the Pistachio Pistachio soothes me and helps me not to cringe as much while I watch those people on TV. The funny thing is I keep waiting to get sick of my wonderful Pistachio but it must be true love. I never tire. And yes, I usually eat the whole carton...

Jacob's flavor of death. One part of the night I always wait for is Jacob's comment on the amount of cookie dough "they" put in his particular pint of ice cream. Usually he feels ripped off, but sometimes "they" get it right and it is heavenly.

real life

Well, I enjoyed my Spring Break blogging. We'll have to see how I keep up in my real life. This post may be boring but I want to record some of the normal things we do. We have had a busy week so far and it is only going to get better. We are having family come this weekend for Alice's baptism. It will be so fun. We have been preparing for the festivities along with doing our usual thing. Our usual thing this week:
*Piano for the girls (my lessons are still on hold, I'm almost there Holly),
*Family Home Evening (as many of you know this event is bittersweet)
*Activity Days for the girls (Alice is official now),
*Reading the book for book club (Jacob cringes when I make it sound like reading is one of my jobs for the day. I defend myself and tell him that reading for a deadline, processing and trying to come up intelligent thoughts to share with other ladies is not necessarily casual reading)
*Book Club (great book this month, The Lonesome Gods by Louis L'Amour. The only other western I've read is Lonesome Dove, which I loved too. Maybe I like westerns?)
*Primary Meeting
*Cub Scout Awards Dinner (never been, should be interesting)
*Ward Council (I truly love this meeting, so entertaining)
*Dentist appointment for Ada
*Preschool for Jack
*School for girls. No school on Friday though, 4-day week.
*Homework, piano practice, reading, showering, room cleaning
*Every morning, the girls rotate by week, somebody takes care of the animals and unloads the dishwasher. I find random jobs for Jack throughout the day. He said in the summer he will be strong enough to handle Teddy and put her outside.

Obviously there are things I'm forgetting but I'm satisfied that is the major stuff. I have a huge list of projects that I'm thinking about. I was feeling super motivated to conquer my list and then I ruined it all by cracking some ribs. I will tell you what I've been telling everyone else. PROTECT YOUR RIBS AT ALL COSTS!! Unless you've had experience with this, you have no idea the pain and frustration that comes with this certain injury. I've been miserable for 3 weeks now. It sucks. I'm hoping to be able to do some of these things very soon:
*Finish Alice's quilt
*Finish curtains for my room
*Build a chicken run ( my chickens are pooping all over my patio!)
*Fenced garden (the deer ravaged my garden last year)
*Landscape front of house
*Landscape back retaining wall
*Possible orchard
*Possible cow
*Possible rabbits
*Possible boat (it is almost summer, sigh...)
*Order chicks/research friendly breeds
*New place for Teddy
*Hang flower boxes
*Start some seeds?
*Food storage
*Be brave with yeast! It's not so scary is it?
*War and Peace. Dre, you ready?

happy easter!!

*Yay! It stopped hailing and snowing for our Easter Sunday. We had some friends over after General Conference and ate a tasty dinner together. Notice the scraggly moose walking by Adaline during our egg hunt. We dyed some of our own brown eggs and they took color beautifully. Don't you love the special egg Jacob made for me? The "I" is around the back.

this can't be my kid

Jacob took Jack somewhere for something and came home with this picture from his iphone. I almost threw up. Ranch through a straw! Uggghhhh!! I hate ranch. I even have to hold my breath when I'm rinsing ranch puddles off dishes or I gag. I should also clarify that I am no lightweight in the stomach department, there is something special about that particularly tangy smell. Am I sounding finicky? I'm really not but... No to ranch. No to buffet. This is what makes me a little self-conscious about blogging. Oh well. It is what it is and I'm on a blogging roll so I can't stop.

happy birthday alice!

Waiting for all the friends to show up. Alice in her adorable new hair cut.
Marshmallow towers turn into railroad tracks, this is only the beginning
Party time
She conquers 8 candles

Well, Alice turned 8 today. We celebrated by taking the family to see How To Train Your Dragon in 3D. It was so good! Later we had dinner at the local buffet. It was so gross! The kids loved it though. Alice has been begging to go there since she went with a friend last summer. Usually the kids choose their favorite dinner and I cook for them. Actually, now that I think of it, Alice always chooses chicken on a bone (fried chicken) and I don't attempt to make that. I guess whatever the tradition for Alice may be, the buffet was a one shot deal. Anyway, I love my sweet, peace loving, motherly, accessorizing, hard working, huggy, 'like' saying daughter of 8 years now. She is the best!

james turned 2 in january

Group effort candle blow-out
Royal treatment for the birthday boy
Girls showing off their fancy nails. Alice already had the orange and asked for the blue for Christmas just so she could do her nails like this for the big game. Ada's hands remind me of chloe.

This post is long over-due. I almost bagged it but the pictures are so cute I couldn't resist. This year James' birthday happened to fall on the day our beloved Boise State Broncos were playing in the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix. Jacob got tickets to the game and partied all weekend with his friends. You can see pics on his facebook. We here in North Idaho partied too. James had blue and orange cupcakes and candles. We all got our gear on and watched the game. Good thing we won, the kids would have been devastated! It must have been James' birthday karma. I really love this kid! More on him to come.
